I thought I would try out Amazon RDS. Seemed simple enough to use. Run up an Oracle 11g instance. Works fine until you decide that you want to use it as the backend for Oracle applications. In my case, I wanted to run up an instance of OBIEE 18.104.22.168 to try out some new features.
Unfortunately, OBIEE, like many other applications require sysdba privileges and so Amazon RDS is of no use.
I have no reverted to utilise an Amazon EBS Redhat 6 instance and install Oracle 11g on that instance.
